| Bio/Data Corporation's coagulation products are designed to provide the required sensitivity, specificity, and performance for the diagnostic test systems used in today's laboratories. Bio/Data Corporation offers coagulation reagents, to laboratories worldwide, which are crucial for the detection, diagnosis and management of coagulation function abnormalities in hemostasis disorders, like heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) that affect the extrinsic, intrinsic, and common hemostatic pathways, as well as for the monitoring of patients undergoing aspirin therapy and oral anticoagulation treatment (OAT). While some coagulation reagents are used for routine tests, such as ristocetin induced platelet aggregation (RIPA), others like Thrombinex® (bovine thrombin) and Platelet Extract Reagent (Lupus Anticoagulant Assay) are for special tests. Platelet Extract Reagent carries the CE Mark. Blood Coagulation techniques are classified into broad spectrum tests and specific clotting assays. There are two main systems: the tissue (extrinsic) clotting system, and the blood (intrinsic) clotting system. The broad spectrum test for the extrinsic system is the prothrombin time, and for the intrinsic test for the extrinsic system is the prothrombin time, and for the intrinsic system, the partial thromboplastin (cephalin) time. Prior to the development of the standardized tissue thromboplastin reagent, prothrombin time results and the International Normalization Ration or INR on a given blood specimen varied considerably from hospital to hospital, largely because of the differences in laboratory methods. As a pioneer in the hemostasis monitoring industry, Bio/Data Corporation has developed a series of coagulation controls to be used as reference material for coagulation tests. |
